The Early Life of  Siddhartha

 

Siddhartha was born into the royal family of the Shakya clan in Lumbini, Nepal. However, this cocooned existence couldn’t quell his deep sense of curiosity and existential inquiry.

 

The Great Renunciation

 

At the age of 29, Siddhartha encountered the Four Sights – an old man, a sick person, a corpse, and an ascetic. These encounters shattered his sheltered worldview and ignited a burning desire to find the true nature of human suffering and its cessation. Leaving behind his royal life, wife, and newborn son, he embarked on a quest for enlightenment.

For six years, Siddhartha practiced extreme asceticism, seeking answers through deprivation. However, realizing that neither indulgence nor severe austerity was the answer, he adopted the Middle Way – a balanced approach to spiritual practice. Under the Bodhi tree in Bodh Gaya, after days of deep meditation, he attained enlightenment and became the Buddha, “the Awakened One.”
